Other than the Santa suit and the need to punish, it seems that this remake has little to do with its predecessor, Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984). In the original, a young boy named Robert Wilson developed a fear of Santa Claus after his family was murdered by a thug dressed like Saint Nick. When he reached adulthood and was asked to dress up as the man in red for his company’s Christmas party, the outfit brought back such horrid memories that he went on a killing spree, murdering all of the nearby townspeople who had misbehaved.
Whether or not the remake will include the backstory is unforeseen, but it appears that there will be a killer Santa crossing off his naughty list on Christmas Eve. Starring Malcolm McDowell and Jaime King, this updated slasher comes to theaters in November, just in time for the holidays.
Silent Night is set to release on November 30th, 2012.
