One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is the ability to visit your favorite movie locations. Once I discovered how close I live to the house that the first season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY used for exterior (and a few interior) shots, I knew I had to stop by and see it in person. As fans of the show know, AMERICAN HORROR STORY is an anthology series, meaning that each season exists as one individual series with its own plot and characters, only re-using actors. This past season was known as COVEN, and told the story of a group of young witches living together in New Orleans in present day. Season two was referred to as ASYLUM, and, as you can guess, revolved around the patients of Briarcliff Mental Institution in Massachusetts in the 1960s. Season one was called MURDER HOUSE, and existed nearly solely in a single two story house in Los Angeles during present day, with several flashbacks that took place in the same location. Funny enough, this same house was also used for filming in season four, episode four of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, in the episode titled “Fear, Itself”. Oddly enough, both shows argued that the house was attacking its inhabitants. I guess I can understand this angle after seeing the house in person, as it does look pretty mischievous, even from the outside.
